Latest facts on COVID-19 testing in Modesto area
Deaths to COVID-19 in Stanislaus County rose by five to 237 on Tuesday, the Health Services Agency announced. Only 38 new positive tests were reported.
Details on age, gender and underlying conditions were not available for the five people who died.
The number of infected people stood at 13,521, the agency’s online update said. Another 69,492 residents have tested negative, and 12,721 are presumed recovered.
Hospitalizations of infected patients rose by three to 153, according to the county’s dashboard. They were at 205 a week ago. Available intensive-care beds for adults dropped to four Tuesday from 10 the day before.
The hospitalizations did not include patients at Central Valley Specialty Hospital. The county started using the downtown Modesto site to help relieve other facilities in Modesto, Turlock and Oakdale.
The single-day positive rate was 12.75% on Tuesday, up from 8.44% on Monday. The seven-day rate was 15.33%, compared with 14.98% on Sunday. The 14-day rate was 20.80%, down from 23.73%.
The overall infection rate since March was 16.3%, unchanged from Monday.
To apply for a waiver to reopen school campuses for kindergartners to sixth grade, the California Department of Public Health wants the 14-day case rate per 100,000 residents at or below 200 based on the “episode date,” or the “earliest date that the (patient) can be known to have had the infection. “ Stanislaus County was at 236 on Tuesday, versus 244.5 on Monday.
The per capita rate based on reported date in the last 14 days is 484.
There are other factors that need to be met before reopening, and it includes being off the state watch list for 14 days. Stanislaus County is on that watch list.
Of those who tested positive as of Tuesday, 54% are female and 46% male. Seven percent are 14 or younger, 17% are 15 to 24, 21% are 25 to 34, 18% are 35 to 44, 15% are 45 to 54, 11% are 55 to 64, 6% are 65 to 74, 3% are 75 to 84, and 2% are 85 or older.
Though they make up 47 percent of the population, Latinos represented 61 percent of the positive cases.
Modesto has 4,986 positive cases, 1,757 are in Turlock, 1,693 are in Ceres, 671 are in Riverbank, 654 are in Patterson, 266 are in Oakdale, 264 are in Newman, 198 are in Waterford, and 119 are in Hughson. Of the cases in unincorporated areas, 831 are in supervisorial District 5, 778 are in District 3, which includes Salida, 610 are in District 2, 270 are in District 1, and 89 are in District 4.

- San Joaquin County has 297 COVID-19-related deaths among 16,545 cases.
- Merced County has 110 deaths among 7,690 cases.
- Tuolumne County has 179 cases and two deaths.
- Mariposa County has 69 cases and two deaths.
As of Wednesday morning, there were 682,423 confirmed cases in California and 12,417 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. There were 5,779,395 U.S. cases and 178,533 deaths.
