Coronavirus death, nursing home outbreak in Calaveras County, officials announce
One person died, and two children have been infected with COVID-19 in Calaveras County, officials announced Friday night.
The county also announced a coronavirus outbreak among residents at Avalon Health Care in San Andreas. According to the California Department of Health, there has been at least one death at the facility.
The death of a woman between the ages of 50 to 64 was the second death in the county tied to COVID-19. The male and female, age 17 or under, were among the 16 reported new cases Friday. Nineteen residents 17 or under have been infected.
In all, 197 Calaveras County residents have been infected since the start of the pandemic, according to the county web site.
Earlier this week, the county was added to the state coronavirus watch list.
“We are thinking of the family and the community who are grieving a loved one who passed away from COVID-19. We must remain vigilant and continue to take actions that protect ourselves, our loves ones, and our community,” said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County health officer.
“It requires people to commit to doing what we know works to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Practice physical distancing, wear a face covering, get tested, wash your hands often, stay home if you are sick, and avoid any gatherings where physical distancing and masking is not being followed.”
