Stanislaus deaths to COVID-19 reach 77. Past nine days have brought a third of them
Four more Stanislaus County residents have died from COVID-19, officials said Wednesday, raising the total to 77. Twenty-six of the deaths were reported over the past nine days.
No details were released on the latest deaths in the daily update from the county Health Services Agency.
Stanislaus had 6,984 positive tests as of Wednesday, an increase of 149 from Tuesday. Another 45,885 residents have tested negative, and 5,663 are presumed recovered.
The deaths were announced amid concern about a resurgence of the virus in the county and many other parts of the nation. Local hospital workers talked about the stress of treating the influx of patients.
The county’s five hospitals reported that only 0.9% of intensive care beds for adults were available Wednesday. That gauge was at 0% two days earlier.
Stanislaus reported its first death April 10, several weeks later than similar counties. The death rate increased in May and June, then exploded in July.
Health officials remind residents that they must wear face coverings in public to help slow COVID-19. They also should stay at least 6 feet from non-household members and follow hand-washing and other sanitation measures.
