Coronavirus update, June 5: Modesto nursing home has second death; Turlock widow sues

Latest facts on COVID-19 testing in Modesto area

Vintage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Modesto has reported a second coronavirus death, and a staff member has tested positive.

The death was reported in an update on the website of the 99-bed nursing home on Dale Road. In all, six residents and one employee have tested positive for COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus.

“Regrettably, two residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have passed away,” the notice says. “On behalf of our entire community, we join these families in mourning the loss of their loved ones to this insidious virus.”

The center is part of Covenant Care, which has reported 19 deaths at its Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Total deaths in Stanislaus County stood at 31 as of Thursday. The number of county residents testing positive rose to 816. Negative tests are at 14,205. The positivity rate was unchanged at 5.4%.

The number of people hospitalized at some point is at 145, and 623 are presumed to be recovered.

Among the five county hospitals, 47% of total beds are available, 42% of intensive care unit beds are available, and 81% of ventilators are available.

Of those who tested positive, 55% are female and 45% male. Ten percent are 20 or younger, 16% are 21 to 30, 16% are 31 to 40, 18% are 41 to 50, 14% are 51 to 60, 10% are 61 to 70, 7% are 71 to 80, 6% are 81 to 90, and 2% are older than 90.

Modesto has 226 positive cases, 210 are in Turlock, 96 are in Ceres, 52 are in Patterson, 26 are in Riverbank, 16 are in Oakdale, 14 are in Newman, 14 are in Waterford, and eight are in Hughson. Of the cases in unincorporated areas, 50 are in supervisorial District 5, 40 in District 3, 27 in District 2, 10 in District 1 and fewer than five in District 4.

As of Thursday evening, there were 122,168 confirmed cases in California and 4,444 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. There were 1,872,660 U.S. cases and 108,211 deaths.
