Updated: See a map of the California counties with reported coronavirus cases

California is under a statewide stay-at-home order as communities across the state continue to battle the global coronavirus pandemic.

Daily increases in the number of covid-19 cases are in part a result of increasing community transmission of the virus and in part a result of the gradual increase in availability of testing in the state. Still, health officials warn that testing is still lacking and that the true number of cases is likely higher than the current number of confirmed cases.

A Placer County resident became the first California patient to die from the coronavirus on March 4.
