Stanislaus County reports two more deaths from coronavirus. Total stands at four
Stanislaus County on Tuesday reported its third and fourth deaths from the coronavirus – a man and a woman who both had underlying medical conditions.
The announcement came just four days after the county reported its first death, and three days after the second. Stanislaus has had a relatively low death rate compared with San Joaquin County and other hotspots.
As usual, the Stanislaus County Health Services Agency did not disclose the ages or hometowns of the most recent fatal cases, nor where they died.
The agency did repeat its advice for residents to follow the state’s stay-home order.
“In the past week, 65 new cases of COVID‐19 have been diagnosed in Stanislaus County, some of them severely ill,” said Dr. Julie Vaishampayan, the county’s public health officer, in a news release Tuesday. “While these deaths are not unexpected, we are still saddened by this loss of life. We wish to share our heartfelt condolence to the families and friends who have lost loved ones.”
As of Monday, the county reported that 146 people had tested positive for COVID-19. An update is expected by Tuesday evening.
Officials say controlling the virus requires that people stay at least 6 feet from others when grocery shopping, exercising or working jobs exempt from the state order.
“We all need to continue to evaluate our own actions to ensure they are limited to essential services only so that we can continue to slow down the spread of the disease,” Vaishampayan said.
