Turlock Transit will provide free rides to seniors looking to do early-morning shopping amid the coronavirus emergency.

The extra service will run from 7 to 9 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays starting March 30. No end date has been set.

Turlock residents 65 and older can book a ride from home to stores that provide essential supplies. Many retailers have set senior-only hours to ease the crunch.

The city-owned bus system curtailed its fixed-route schedule after the state’s stay-home order reduced ridership. But the dial-a-ride part is expanding in response to COVID-19.

Dial-a-ride will continue its regular service, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays, except holidays. Riders during these hours pay fares.

All bus riders are asked to stay at least 6 feet from other people, a key part of controlling the coronavirus.

Dial-a-ride reservations can be made at 209-668-5600 or www.turlocktransit.com.
