Hungry for the best fried chicken in California?
Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N Waffles serves up the best battered thighs, breasts, legs and wings in the state, according to LoveFood.com.
The food-focused website recently shared its rankings of the best fried chicken joint in every state.
“If you’re going to focus on just two things, they both need to be excellent,” LoveFood.com reviewer Dominique Ayling wrote on July 1. “Thankfully, Roscoe’s serves superb fried chicken and fluffy, perfectly golden waffles.”
Here’s what you need to know about the popular restaurant chain.
What’s on the menu at California restaurant chain?
Founded by Harlem native Herb Hudson in Hollywood in 1975, Roscoe’s Chicken ’N Waffles is best known for — surprise, surprise — fried chicken and waffles.
However, that’s hardly the only thing on the soul food chain’s menu.
Menu offerings include such hearty combos as Sir Michael, a quarter chicken smothered in gravy and onions and served with grits and a fluffy hot biscuit, and Jean’s Delight, which pairs chicken with mixed greens, potato salad and cornbread.
Other options include breakfast sandwiches, burgers, omelets and chicken chili, all served with sides including coleslaw, greens and macaroni and cheese.
For dessert, there’s sweet potato pie, banana pudding and red velvet cookies.

Roscoe’s isn’t the only California restaurant getting recognition for its fried chicken.
Howlin’ Ray’s Hot Chicken in downtown Los Angeles ranked No. 1 on Yelp’s “finger-lickin’ guide to fried chicken in every state.”
The list, published July 1, was created after Yelp looked at businesses that serve chicken with lots of five-star reviews left by elite reviewers.
Howlin’ Ray’s, which specializes in Nashville-style hot chicken, has a second location in Pasadena.
