A 52-year-old man is accused of killing a bystander who saw him arguing with a woman in an Anaheim strip mall parking lot, California police say.

A 40-year-old man died after being shot because he observed a couple arguing in an Anaheim strip mall parking lot, California police said.

Police found Jorge Becerra-Vera of Stanton, California, with “at least one gunshot wound” at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 18, Anaheim police said in a news release. He later died at a hospital.

Adalid Arcigaplancarte, 52, of Anaheim, had been arguing with a woman who he was in a “romantic relationship” with in the parking lot when he noticed Becerra-Vera observing the dispute, police said.

He confronted Becerra-Vera, who was not involved in the argument, and fatally shot him, the release said. Arcigaplancarte fled. The woman was not hurt.

Investigators arrested Arcigaplancarte on Saturday, March 19, on a charge of murder in the case, the release said.

Anaheim is a city of 350,000 people in Orange County, south of Los Angeles. It is home to the Disneyland Resort.
