What led to pre-dawn murder at an off-roading park? California cops investigating
Southern California homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found dead in a vehicle at an off-roading area near the 15 Freeway on Monday.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to the Stoddard Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Area at 3:25 a.m. on reports that a dead person was in a vehicle there. Responding officers discovered a person “suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” deputies said in a news release Monday.
Emergency medical responders pronounced the victim dead, deputies said.
“At a nearby business and nearby the vehicle, deputies located and detained subjects related to the incident,” deputies said.
Jodi Miller, a sheriff’s department spokesperson, said authorities were interviewing the four people who were detained on Monday, adding that investigators were “extremely confident” there weren’t other suspects, KTLA reported.
“The motive for the shooting is under investigation,” deputies said.
Authorities characterized the case as a murder investigation and described the victim as an adult man whose name is being “withheld pending next of kin notification.”
Deputies said that the investigation “is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Tramayne Phillips at 909-387-3589. Callers can remain anonymous and contact WeTip at 800-78CRIME or www.wetip.com.”
