What’s replacing Ashley furniture space on Sisk Road in Modesto? Wine and more
After Big Lots closed and its former Sisk Road location stayed vacant for over a year, its neighbor, Ashley furniture, jumped to the bigger unit. A business new to Stanislaus County now is renovating the space Ashley left empty.
Total Wine & More is a spirit, wine and beer store founded by two brothers in Delaware in 1991. Its website says it is the “nation’s largest independent beverage retailer,” with nearly 300 stores across 30 states and the District of Columbia.
Comparatively, BevMo — in the same Sisk Road shopping center — operates over 160 stores in California, Arizona and Washington.
This will be the first Total Wine & More store in the Central Valley; the closest is in Pleasanton.
The store sells more than 8,000 wines, 3,000 spirits and 2,500 beers, its website says. Nonalcoholic options, mixers, cigars, glassware and snacks are also sold.
An opening date has not been announced, but the store received its initial construction inspection June 18. It will receive at least two more inspections from the health department (and inspections from other agencies) before it can open.
