Bounce houses are fun, but these new Modesto businesses offer unique party rentals

Planning a birthday party, school event or work gathering? Two new Modesto businesses offer services beyond what may initially come to mind when wanting to entertain a crowd.

One company brings balls to sink, and another brings wheels and a rink. Here’s how to book with Hoop Modesto and Roll W. Me Skating.

Arcade basketball delivered to your event

Hoop Modesto is a mobile arcade basketball trailer with four stations, an optional light show, a sound system and a bracket board. Owner Nick Surah purchased the trailer from San Diego-based company Hoop Trailer, which claims to be the first arcade basketball trailer manufacturer (with a patent for the concept pending).

“We launched around mid-January of this year, and so far it’s been going great,” Surah said. “(Arcade basketball is) the one game I played growing up, so I really love this concept.”

The Hoop Modesto trailer will travel within a 50-mile radius. Surah said he drops off the trailer, sets it up in around 15 minutes, then comes back at the scheduled pickup time.

A two-hour rental costs $250, a four-hour rental costs $400, and it is $1,000 to rent all day (12 hours). Multiple-day rentals are also an option.

Roller-skating rink in your backyard?

Roll W. Me Skating owner Marcus Robinson began his business last year, acquiring materials and hosting a few parties as a test before he officially launched in February. Robinson, a roller skater himself, recognized the popularity of the activity and often heard people looking for a place to skate.

“I wanted to own my own roller-skating rink, but I’m not rich, so I thought of something I could take to the people, and this is what I came up with,” he said.

His slogan is, “Let’s roll into some fun,” and he has a mascot, Roller Bear, who wears a black cowboy hat just like Robinson.

Party packages start at $450 for a 640-square-foot rink for up to 12 skaters, and go up to $1,250 for a 2,000-square-foot rink for up to 50 skaters. All packages are priced for three hours and include skate rentals for all ages and sizes, socks if needed, two Bluetooth speakers, an attendant and full setup and teardown.

Robinson said will host a skating event this Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Empire Car Show at 5201 First St. Skating sessions will be $10.
