We Donuts opening second Modesto location in old Baker Boy unit. What happened?
We Donuts announced Monday that it will open a second location in Modesto.
The unit, at 2043 Tully Road, was the previous site of Baker Boy Donuts, which closed in early October.
“Due to health issues, the shop was sold and the new owners will close a couple of weeks for remodeling,” the owner wrote on Instagram. “The new owners are good people. They come in a short notice and took over because of the situation we are in.”
A GoFundMe created by a Baker Boy Donuts employee in July states that the owner’s girlfriend was diagnosed with lupus.
According to a fictitious business name statement filed with The Modesto Bee in September 1986, Baker Boy Donuts has existed in the same unit in the Gregory Gardens shopping center on Tully at Bowen Avenue for 39 years.
The earliest record of We Donuts in Bee archives is in the early 1970s. Its first shop is at 2207 Scenic Drive, just east of Oakdale Road.
“We eagerly anticipate sharing even more irresistible donuts, freshly brewed coffee and warm hospitality with you,” We owners said in their Facebook announcement.
