Food Fix Truck has closed. What about the downtown Modesto restaurant?

The popular Food Fix Truck, once visited by Food Network stars Alton Brown and Guy Fieri, has closed after a decade of serving customers on the road.

Owner Hank Olson announced on Facebook that he sold the signature orange truck he called “Rafy,” named after the Santa Rosa business he bought the truck from: Rafy’s Taco Truck.

“Honestly, it was a good business move, just sitting there. Not doing much.” Olson wrote in the post. “The cost of parking and insurance, what are you going to do? With the restaurant (what I was really going for) and now the bakery, we have overachieved every goal.”

The Food Fix Truck opened in 2015, serving lunch on Modesto’s streets. Celebrity chef Brown ate at the truck the same year. It was featured on Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” in 2016 and named The Daily Meal’s No. 1 food truck in the country in 2017.

When reflecting on the truck’s opening, Olson wrote this: “We didn’t make much, but if we sold tacos, we might have. That’s what everyone asked for when they walked up. They had never seen a food truck in this area that didn’t sell tacos. A lot of disappointment on both ends. The ones that walked away really wanted tacos. The ones that had sandwiches still sit at my bar every day.”

What’s happening to the Food Fix Butcher & Baker restaurant?

Though it’s the end of the road for Olson’s food truck, his restaurant will remain open and is celebrating a milestone.

“Please come in this Saturday for our six-year restaurant anniversary,” Olson wrote on Facebook. “We just hung the Food Fix Truck door, grill and license plates on the wall and we are working on the original menu for nostalgia.”

The event will start at 11 a.m. and end at 9 p.m. at 938 11th St. There will be a special barbecue menu, live music, raffle prizes and beer specials.
