Crumbl may face competition in Modesto when new cookie store opens. How do they differ?
A new dessert store is opening in Modesto this spring that could either complement or compete with the existing Crumbl Cookies across town.
Dirty Dough Cookies will open its first Northern California location in mid-May, choosing Modesto as its landing spot. The other three stores in the state are in Dana Point, Stevensons Ranch and Poway. There are over 70 locations nationwide.
Crumbl and Dirty Dough both are franchises that sell cookies. Simple enough, except the chains don’t sell exactly the same product — giving Modestans a wider variety of options.
Crumbl offers thick, cake-like cookies that often have toppings or frosting.
“Other guys have cookies. Dirty Dough has super-stuffed cookie bombs,” the company’s website says.
Dirty Dough’s cookies are baked fresh on location, with every cookie featuring a combination of layers, mix-ins and filling within the dough, according to a news release.
Crumbl cookie flavors rotate weekly, while Dirty Dough has classic flavors that remain on the menu, as well as weekly rotating options.
Dirty Dough classics, according to the website, include:
- Stuffed chocolate chip
- Brookie: a chocolate chip cookie stuffed with caramel, wrapped in a brownie and drizzled with more caramel
- The Reverse: fudge filling wrapped in a chocolate cookie, then triple wrapped with a peanut butter cookie and topped with a chocolate drizzle and crushed Reese’s peanut butter cups
- Cookies ‘n’ creme: vanilla cookie loaded with Oreo cookie chunks and white chocolate chips, stuffed with creme filling and topped with white icing and Oreo crumbs
Examples of cookies in the weekly rotation are German chocolate, orange creamsicle and cookie butter. High-protein and gluten-friendly options are also available.
Prices vary by location. The cost of a single cookie at the existing California locations ranges from $4.90 to $5.19. Customers can also order four packs ($17 to $18.49 in California stores), a half-dozen box ($24.75 to $25.99) or a “dirty dozen” ($46.50 to $48.99).
Modesto franchisee Salinder Singh will open his Dirty Dough store at 3848 McHenry Ave., Suite 305, on May 15, a company representative said. The store will sit next to Ramen 101 in the North Point Landing shopping center, which is anchored by Walmart.
