Owners of McHenry Village restaurant have partnered with nonprofit to open Modesto cafe
A husband-and-wife duo have opened their third restaurant — their second in Stanislaus County — this time in partnership with a local health center.
Cafe Verona opened to the public Monday inside Community Hospice & Health Services, a Modesto nonprofit. It is operated by executive chef Jaime Alderete and his wife, Edwarda, owners of Verona Cucina Italiana in McHenry Village and Verona18 in Copperopolis.
“Community Hospice & Health Services recently closed our deli operations in late December,” said Mathew Francis, the company’s president and CEO. “We knew when we made that decision [that] we wanted to partner with someone to take over our kitchen and event space.”
The cafe is open for breakfast and lunch. Its business hours are weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The menu has dine-in and takeout options including paninis, sandwiches and salads. Cafe Verona also offers ready-made, take-home dinners including a lasagna meal with Caesar salad and garlic bread that serves four people for $40.
“We have been looking to expand our restaurant business, and when Community Hospice & Health Services approached us about partnering to use their space, we felt like this was a great opportunity to share our wonderful food, grow our business and support a local nonprofit,” the Alderetes said.
The cafe also does catering, and the adjoining event space can accommodate a large family, business or community event, according to a news release.
Cafe Verona is at 4368 Spyres Way. To view the menu or place an order, visit www.clover.com/online-ordering/community-hospice--deli-modesto, call 209-822-0107 or email CafeVerona25@gmail.com.
