These national food chains have opened new Stanislaus sites with more planned soon
Two chains with cult followings are opening new locations in two Stanislaus County cities, with their sights set on additional Central Valley locations nearby soon.
The popular and fast-growing West Coast coffee chain Dutch Bros Coffee is opening its second Modesto location Friday, Sept. 10. Meanwhile in Riverbank, the popular and fast-growing cookie chain Crumbl Cookies recently opened its second Stanislaus County location in the Riverbank Crossroads shopping center.
Since opening its first county location in Oakdale in August 2019, Dutch Bros Coffee has been steadily building out its drive-thru kiosk presence in the region. It’s newest on Carpenter Road is the company’s fourth site in Stanislaus County. The coffee seller has existing kiosks on McHenry Avenue in Modesto, West Monte Vista Avenue in Turlock and North Yosemite Avenue in Oakdale.
The coffee seller is known for its plentiful specialty drinks, drive-thru/walk-up concept and unique flavor combinations. Long lines have accompanied all of the openings so far, as the brand has gained loyal and curious followers as it expands locally.
But the Oregon-based company still isn’t done with its valley expansion. Work is well underway on the county’s fifth Dutch Bros location, which will be Turlock’s second site. A new drive-thru coffee kiosk is being constructed on Golden State Boulevard in the Turlock Town Center.
The site had formerly been home to Mundo’s Latin Grill, which has moved to a new space in the same complex. That building was torn down to make way for the new kiosk. Dutch Bros Coffee spokeswoman Olivia Ortiz said the company is planning for an “early December” opening for the second Turlock site.
Dutch Bros Coffee at 901 N. Carpenter Road in Modesto is open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. For more information call 541-955-4700 or visit www.dutchbros.com.
Crumbl opens in Riverbank
In Riverbank, Crumbl Cookies has opened its second Stanislaus County location in the busy Crossroads shopping center on Claribel Road. The Utah-based cookie chain opened its first California location in June 2020 in Turlock’s Monte Vista Crossings shopping center.
Known for its soft, chewy cookies the size of a flattened softball, Crumbl has garnered a loyal following with its ever-changing weekly menu and hot delivery service. Its latest site in Riverbank takes the space that was formerly Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, next to the Panda Express on the west end of the complex.
Local franchise owners John and Jill Gauthier are building a mini cookie empire in the region. The husband-and-wife team have eight locations so far, and ultimately plan to open about 18 sites across several states.
Like the Turlock location, the Riverbank Crumbl offers walk-in and delivery service and sells its cookies by the piece or in dozens, with late-night hours on the weekend. The menu rotates regularly with five to six cookie flavors to choose from each week. For its grand opening the Riverbank store will have banana bread, waffle, old-fashioned doughnut, cereal milk featuring Fruity Pebbles, milk chocolate chip and classic sugar cookie flavors.
The county’s second Crumbl should be followed in short order by its third site, which will be its first location in Modesto. John Gauthier, who also opened Modesto’s first Little Caesars Pizza franchise in the 1990s and still owns some 50 of the restaurants across several states, said the next Crumbl will be in the Costco center on Pelandale Avenue.
He said they will get the keys to the new site — the former home of the Starbucks which has closed now that a new drive-thru location is open about a block away in front of Valley Children’s Pelandale Specialty Care Center — at the start of the October. He hopes to have that location up and running some time in December.
Crumbl Cookies at 2207 Claribel Road in Riverbank is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 8 a.m. to midnight Friday to Saturday. For more information call 209-719-1011 or visit crumblcookies.com.
