New additions to West Modesto shopping center: burgers and breakfast among other fare

Residents of northwest Modesto have another dining option with Nation’s Giant Hamburgers now open in Wood Colony Plaza on Pelandale Avenue.

The Bay Area chain offers giant burgers, breakfast, homemade pies and thick milkshakes. Its signature burgers are served with Miracle Whip for a unique flavor.

The opening marks the second Nation’s in the region. The first is on McHenry Avenue and opened in November 2022. The new one is at 3900 Pelandale Ave., Suite 600, and is open Sunday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to midnight.

If burgers aren’t your favorite fare, perhaps breakfast is. Coming in the spring is The Breakfast Club. Restaurateur Jerry Ajlouney, who also operates Nick the Greek in Wood Colony Plaza and its locations in Riverbank and Ceres, brings the regional franchise that offers a modern twist on breakfast.

Offering breakfast and brunch selections and mimosa flights, The Breakfast Club started in San Jose and has been rapidly expanding in the Bay Area, with seven locations now open. This will be the first in this county. Ajlouney said the restaurant will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The new addition joins a number of restaurants opened in the center over the last few years, including Thai Buri, Teaspoon, Teriyaki Madness, Nick the Greek and the newly opened Fat Boy Roasted Delights.

There is also a robust Mexican food counter inside Vallarta Supermarket, which opened in February of 2024. The large space was previously occupied by Save Mart, which moved to a new location across Pelandale in 2010.

The resurgence of the shopping center has been the effort of real estate developer Brian Dole and his family’s company, Vintage Properties. In an email, Dole said there are more exciting tenants coming to the plaza next year, though the leases have not been finalized, so updates will be provided later.

He did say that The Dental Gallery will open in Suite 35 at the end of this year, and Total Wireless by Verizon will open in March.
