More restaurants coming to Pelandale Avenue shopping center next to Vallarta
Two restaurants are moving into the rapidly growing Wood Colony Plaza on Pelandale Avenue in Modesto.
Nation’s Giant Hamburgers and Fat Boy Roasted Delights join the list of eight other restaurants and fitness centers that have opened in the shopping center in the past 18 months: Vallarta Supermarkets, Nick the Greek, Thai Buri, Teaspoon, Teriyaki Madness, Wingstop, Planet Fitness and HOTWORX.
This will be Nation’s second restaurant in Modesto. The other is at 2509 McHenry Ave.
The one coming to Wood Colony Plaza will be in Suite 600, between Planet Fitness and Teriyaki Madness.
Nation’s was established in 1952 by Russ Harvey. At that time, it was a hot dog stand in San Pablo, California.
On the hunt for a good burger place, Harvey decided to add some to his own menu and renamed his restaurant to Harvey’s Giant Hamburgers.
A young man named Dale Power was hired by Harvey and worked at the restaurant for a decade before purchasing his own in Oakland in 1970. The two men partnered, calling their “little chain” Nation’s Giant Hamburgers, according to the company’s website.
While pies were on the menu from the beginning, Power purchased a bakery in Fremont in 1974 and starting bringing in “fresh, homemade pies in-house as a daily menu item.” Breakfast was introduced in 1978.
The franchise has 34 locations in California, with five more coming to west Modesto, Turlock, San Jose (two) and San Francisco. The are four locations out of state, in Texas.
Not a lot of information is available regarding Fat Boy Roasted Delights. The business was registered with the California Secretary of State in January as a restaurant.
Modesto resident Ray Hu is listed as the CEO.
The restaurant is being constructed in the end unit of Wood Colony Plaza on the Sisk Road side, a couple of doors down from Teriyaki Madness.
