Modesto Almond Blossom Cruise is getting national attention again. Here’s when and where
Modesto’s almond blossoms continue to attract national interest, from the New York Times last year to “CBS Saturday Morning” this year.
“CBS Saturday Morning” is expected to broadcast a segment featuring Modesto’s Almond Blossom Cruise on Saturday, March 15. The San Francisco CBS affiliate KPIX will air the program from 4 to 6 a.m., according to a press release from Visit Modesto.
Visit Modesto spearheads the annual self-led audio tour that showcases the region’s almond blossoms in all their glory, along with spots such as Rodin Farms on Claribel Road and Roberts Ferry Gourmet on Highway 132.
The “CBS Saturday Morning” segment will be hosted by its West Coast correspondent Emily Cook, who “will take viewers inside the Almond Blossom Cruise and the deep almond history that is rooted in Modesto, and touch on the success of the cruise that has brought so many visitors to the area,” according to the press release.
The segment also will feature Visit Modesto CEO Todd Aaronson and Roberts Ferry Gourmet owner Kim West.
To watch online after the show airs, viewers can go to CBS Saturday Morning and search for the link, the release said. It’s expect to replay on the CBS app beginning at 6 a.m.
The New York Times heralded the Modesto region’s almond blossoms as a national destination in its Frugal Traveler column that posted Jan. 31, 2024, as previously reported in The Bee.
That shout-out was among a section on “Destination Dupes,” a trend on TikTok for travelers seeking to avoid “heavily touristed and pricey places,” the NYT story said.
“In that vein, rather than viewing the cherry blossoms of Kyoto, Japan, or Washington, D.C., consider Modesto, Calif., the gateway to farming country in the Central Valley, during almond blossom season,” the Times story said. “In February and March, the region’s 1.5 million acres of almond trees burst with pink and white flowers.”
