Rescue crews are searching for a motorist who was reported missing in floodwaters in south Sacramento County.
Dan Quiggle, deputy fire chief for operations for Cosumnes Community Service District Fire Department, said Cosumnes and Wilton fire crews were searching for a missing motorist who was reported washed off Dillard Road near Highway 99 overnight.
“We’re doing everything we can to find the reported missing person in their vehicle,” he said.
A helicopter from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District was also assisting.
Flooding on the Cosumnes River on Saturday triggered a closure of Highway 99 near Dillard Road overnight, prompting authorities to pluck motorists from disabled vehicles a mile south of Elk Grove.
Three to four dozen motorists had been rescued from the highway since midnight, Quiggle said, as personnel used large vehicles, boats and Metro Fire’s helicopter to ferry motorists away from their disabled vehicles.
Most of the people rescued were not injured and were transported to the Barbara Morse Wackford Community & Aquatic Complex in Elk Grove to be reunited with family. Several with minor injuries were transported to hospitals, Quiggle said.
