SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE

NEEDED: Volunteers ages 16 and older on the first day of each relay to register walkers and teams, assist with sales, help with other activities and assist with cleanup at all sites. Event dates run through September. Visit relay.acsevents.org.

SOCIETY FOR DISABILITIES

NEEDED: Volunteers to help at two major fundraisers, Community Brunch, Sep. 11, and Wild West Gala, Oct. 22. Volunteers will help with a variety of items from bussing tables, to decorating, to helping with the silent auction. Hours vary.

STANISLAUS COUNTY ELECTIONS OFFICE

NEEDED: Volunteers 18 or older and registered California voters to serve as poll workers on Tuesday, Nov. 8 for the Presidential General Election. Bilingual and “on-call” poll workers are also needed. Poll workers help set up the voter precinct, maintain ballot security, voting equipment and assist voters as necessary. Poll workers will receive a $95 stipend for serving 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Election Day and a mandatory two- to three-hour training class. Training classes in Modesto, Oakdale, Salida and Turlock are offered from Oct. 18-29. Volunteer applications are available online at www.stanvote.com.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES

NEEDED: Adult volunteers to help seniors as Long-Term Care Ombudsmen. Volunteers advocate for the quality of life and quality of care on behalf of residents in the long-term care facilities. All volunteers receive a 36-hour training course, are certified by the California Department of Aging and receive guidance from trained volunteer staff. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, and commit to volunteering at least 15 hours per month. The next orientation training is Sept. 29, 3-4 p.m. Five-day training is Oct. 4-5, 7, 11 and 13, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

CENTER FOR HUMAN SERVICES HUTTON HOUSE

NEEDED: Volunteers 21 and older to aid runaway and homeless teens at shelter site, answer crisis line, perform intakes, lead recreational activities, tutor youth, co-facilitate groups with group leaders, transport youth to meetings, events and appointments, interact with youths, chart in files, and participate in other activities to provide support to youths and families. Volunteers attend 18-hours of initial program and CPR/First Aid trainings and monthly training meetings, pass FBI fingerprint and criminal background review, physical clearance, TB test, and Child Abuse Index clearance, and commit to volunteering four hours per week for a minimum of one year. Training is Mondays and Tuesdays from Oct. 10-25, 5-8 p.m. Interviews are Tuesday, Sept. 27, 8:30 a.m. to noon, and Tuesday, Oct. 4, 1-4:30 p.m.
