AMERICAN CANCER
SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE
NEEDED: Volunteers ages 16 and older on the first day of each relay to register walkers and teams, assist with sales, help with other activities and assist with cleanup at all sites. Event dates run through September in Stanislaus, San Joaquin and Merced counties. Visit relay.acsevents.org.

INTER-FAITH MINISTRIES
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older to help provide food and clothing to needy individuals and families. Warehouse volunteers pick up, receive, sort and distribute food to clients; food pantry volunteers interview clients, offer support and referrals, bag grocery orders and stock shelves; and clothes closet volunteers sort clothing and assist in the community clothes closet. Volunteers needed Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., depending on the position. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or 16 to 17 years with an adult and be able to lift at least 25-40 pounds, depending upon the position.

OPERATION 9-2-99
NEEDED: Volunteers are needed to help with the Tuolumne River Clean-Up Project. Duties include hauling tires and shopping carts out of the river and removing trash along the riverbank. Cleanup days are Aug. 13, Sept. 10, Oct. 8, and Nov. 19. Individuals and groups are encouraged to volunteer and asked to bring gloves, water, hat and sunscreen. COURT-APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES OF STANISLAUS COUNTY (CASA)
NEEDED: Volunteers 21 and older to become an advocate for a foster child. Advocates are the voice of a foster child during court proceedings, conduct case fact finding and produce a court report for court hearings based on what is in the best interest of the child. Orientation Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. at the United Way office in Modesto. Training from September to November. Volunteers must complete initial and ongoing training, attend daytime court hearings, maintain strict confidentiality, be computer literate with access to email, pass a fingerprint background check, possess a valid California driver’s license, have access to a vehicle, show proof of insurance and commit to volunteering a minimum of 18 months. Bilingual individuals are especially encouraged to volunteer.

PARENT RESOURCE CENTER
NEEDED: Volunteer ages 14 years and older on an ongoing basis to assist with child care supervision while parents are attending class on site. Play games, sing songs and help children increase their developmental skills. Volunteers need to commit to two hours per week. Volunteers must have a current TB clearance and a background check for individuals 18 years and older.

STANISLAUS ANIMAL SERVICES AGENCY
NEEDED: Volunteers 16 and older to socialize, exercise and care for adoptable animals and assist the public with adoptions at the shelter. Flexible shifts are available Monday-Saturday between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Open to all ages (under 18 years with a parent). All volunteers must have a basic knowledge of animal care and animal handling experience, complete the application process and attend an orientation scheduled the third Wednesday each month 5:30-6:30 p.m. Take completed application orientation.

STANISLAUS COUNTY HEALTH SERVICES AGENCY
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older to greet visitors of the HSA Gift Shop, provide customer service, sell merchandise, wrap gifts and perform general retail store duties. Requires at least a six month commitment of one day per week. Ongoing training provided. All proceeds of the Gift Shop are donated to the Health Services Agency for medical equipment purchases, scholarships and programs such as Adopt-A-Family.
