Name: Betty Baughman
Home base: I’ve lived in Modesto for 35 years.
What you do: I’m a musician, and I play flute and piccolo. I have played in the Modesto Band of Stanislaus County (MoBand) for more than 30 years. I also play with Gottschalk Music Center Concert Band, Camaraderie Woodwind Quintet and Modesto Junior College Concert Band. I’ve also played many seasons for Modesto Performing Arts productions, Townsend Opera Players and continue to play with various wind ensembles.
How you knew: I started playing flute at 10 years old with the public schools music program in Oregon. I played in orchestra and band throughout high school, college and beyond.
Go ahead, brag: I’ve performed with the Gottschalk Music Center Concert Band conducted by Ernie Bucio at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2011. I participated in MoBand trip to Europe in the ’80s. I’ve performed concerts in several countries.
Check you out: Upcoming events include the kickoff of the MoBand Concert in the Park’s six-week concert season starting Thursday, June 9, at Graceada Park. Then the Gottschalk Music Center Concert Band plays in San Francisco Golden Gate Park on Sunday, June 12, as part of the Golden Gate Band Festival. And then Ceres Concerts in the Park will be on Tuesday, June 28.
