AARP – Tax Aide Program
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older are needed to prepare federal and state income tax returns for seniors, age 50 and older in Modesto, Newman, Patterson and Turlock. Volunteers should be comfortable working with numbers, have some familiarity with simple tax returns and computer experience. All volunteers receive a free training and are asked to volunteer at least four hours per week starting
Feb. 1.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF STANISLAUS COUNTY
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older are needed to help in our after-school programs located at two local elementary schools. Tasks may include homework assistance and helping during activities or sports. Volunteer hours are 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, as needed. Applicants must fill out a volunteer application and attend an orientation. Qualified applicants will be interviewed. A background check, fingerprint clearance and a TB test are also required.

CENTER FOR HUMAN SERVICES
NEEDED: Volunteers 12 and older to help reduce the amount of wasted fruit and help increase access of fresh produce to low-income families in our area. Individuals or groups are needed to form volunteer teams – young people, supervised by an adult for Harvest Events. Days and times are usually held on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help glean fruit from backyard tree donors. Adult volunteers are also needed to help pick up empty boxes and distribute harvested fruit to local food banks during the week.

HOPE HAVEN WEST
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older are needed Mondays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon to help in the warehouse, 1324 Coldwell Ave., Modesto, sorting, boxing assembling and packing wheelchairs. Hope Haven West collects discarded and used wheelchairs and ships them to vocational rehab units of 17 federal prisons where prisoners refurbish the chairs. The refurbished chairs are then returned to the agency.

OPERATION 9-2-99
NEEDED: Volunteers 16 and older are needed to help with the Tuolumne River Clean-Up Project. Duties include hauling tires and shopping carts out of the river and removing trash along the river’s bank. Cleanup days are Feb 21 and March 14. Individuals and groups are encouraged to volunteer and asked to bring gloves, water, hat and sunscreen. Visit http://tinyurl.com/operation9-2-99.

PARENT RESOURCE CENTER
NEEDED: Volunteer ages 14 years and older are needed on an ongoing basis to assist with childcare supervision participating in fun, creative activities and mentoring while parents are attending class on site. Play games, sing songs and help children increase their developmental skills. Volunteers need to commit to two hours per week. Volunteers must have a current TB clearance and a background check. The next volunteer orientation is Jan. 29 at 811 Fifth St., Modesto.

STANISLAUS ANIMAL SERVICES AGENCY
NEEDED: Volunteers 16 and older are needed to socialize, exercise and care for adoptable animals and assist the public with adoptions at the shelter. Flexible shifts are available Mondays-Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Foster Care volunteers provide a nurturing home for kittens and/or puppies until they are ready for adoption. All volunteers must have a basic knowledge of animal care and animal handling experience, complete application process and attend an orientation scheduled the third Wednesday of each month, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Take completed application to the orientation.
