MODESTO AMERICAN LEGION

NEEDED: Volunteers needed to assist the American Legion members to prepare the grounds at Lakewood Memorial Gardens for Memorial Day. Work includes clearing overgrown grass and dirt from flag pole sockets, climbing ladders to unload wooden crosses from attic storage, distributing steel flag poles around the grounds and associated work to put everything away after the ceremony on Memorial Day. Work crews out beginning Monday; cleanup crew 3 p.m. on May 30.

AMERICAN CANCER

SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE

NEEDED: Volunteers ages 16 and older are needed on the first day of each relay to register walkers and teams, assist with the sales and set up luminaries and help with other activities, and to assist with cleanup at all sites. Relay for Life Event dates run through September throughout locations in Stanislaus, San Joaquin and Merced counties. Visit relay.acsevents.org for details.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF STANISLAUS COUNTY

NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older to help in the summer camp program located at one local elementary school and one club site May 31-Aug. 5. Tasks will include helping during activities and sports and possibly chaperoning on field trips. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of one hour a week, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, as needed. Applicants must fill out a form and attend an orientation. Qualified applicants will be interviewed. A background check, fingerprint clearance and a TB test are also required.

STANISLAUS COUNTY ELECTIONS OFFICE

NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older and registered California voters are needed to serve as poll workers on June 7 for the presidential primary election. Bilingual and “on-call” poll workers are also needed. Poll workers help set up the voter precinct, maintain ballot security, voting equipment, and assist voters as necessary. Poll workers will receive a $95 stipend for their time and commitment, which includes serving 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Election Day and a mandatory two- to three-hour training class. Training classes in Modesto, Oakdale, Salida and Turlock are offered between May 17 and May 28.

STANISLAUS COUNTY MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS DISASTER SHELTERING EXERCISE

NEEDED: Volunteers on June 11 to act as disaster victims displaced from their homes. Volunteers will go through the sheltering process and be given scenario scripts to act out that include health issues and other challenges often encountered in a shelter environment to provide exercise training participants with “real world” experience.
