AMERICAN CANCER

SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE

NEEDED: Volunteers ages 16 and older are needed on the first day of each relay to register walkers and teams, assist with the sales and set up luminaries and help with other activities, and to assist with cleanup at all sites. Relay for Life Event dates run through September throughout locations in Stanislaus, San Joaquin and Merced counties. Visit relay.acsevents.org for details.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF STANISLAUS COUNTY

NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older to help in the Summer Camp program located at one local elementary school and one club site May 31-Aug. 5. Tasks will include helping during activities and sports and possibly chaperoning on field trips. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of one hour a week, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, as needed. Applicants must fill out a volunteer application and attend an orientation. Qualified applicants will be interviewed. A background check, fingerprint clearance and a TB test are also required.

STANISLAUS COUNTY ELECTIONS OFFICE

NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older and registered California voters are needed to serve as Poll Workers on June 7 for the presidential primary election. Bilingual and “on-call” poll workers are also needed. Poll workers help set up the voter precinct, maintain ballot security, voting equipment, and assist voters as necessary. Poll workers will receive a $95 stipend for their time and commitment, which includes serving 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Election Day and a mandatory two- to three-hour training class. Training classes in Modesto, Oakdale, Salida and Turlock are offered between May 17 and May 28.

STANISLAUS COUNTY MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS DISASTER SHELTERING EXERCISE

NEEDED: Volunteers on June 11 to act as disaster victims displaced from their homes. Volunteers will go through the sheltering process and be given scenario scripts to act out that include health issues and other challenges often encountered in a shelter environment to provide exercise training participants with “real world” experience. DOCTORS MEDICAL CENTER

NEEDED: Volunteers 25 and older who are willing to commit to working two 3.5-hour shifts per month for at least one year for the Service League volunteer program. All volunteers will receive a 25-hour training orientation in the areas of service selected. Prospective volunteers must be dependable, organized, work well with people, complete the application process and pass a background check.

UNITED WAY OF

STANISLAUS COUNTY

NEEDED: Volunteers are needed to support the United Way’s CHEF Health Initiative at Caswell Elementary School in Ceres and Bret Harte Elementary School in Modesto. The CHEF initiative provides bags of healthy food as well as nutrition education classes for parents and students. Volunteers can help build bags of healthy food on two Fridays a month and/or assist teachers in providing nutrition education on one Saturday a month.

STANISLAUS COUNTY

SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

NEEDED: Volunteers 22 and older are needed for the STARS program. STARS citizen volunteers assist the Sheriff’s Department in many roles including patrolling the county, court security, jail assistance, vacation house checks, neighborhood watch and more. Must be able to commit to at least 10 hours a month, and pass an oral board and background check.

RETIRED & SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

NEEDED: The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is for those 55 years and older. RSVP of Stanislaus County is a program under the Corporation of National Service (CNCS) sponsored by Catholic Charities that gives incentives, such as mileage. RSVP assists volunteers, age 55 and older, in finding volunteer opportunities where they can use their talents to help resolve local community needs. RSVP partners with and matches volunteers to various other non-profit agencies that rely on volunteers to provide supportive services or become direct service providers.
