What: Genealogical Society of Stanislaus County

What: The speaker at the annual Super Souper Supper will be native Californian Millie Hunter Starr, a member of the GSSC since September 1981. Her research has taken her to Washington, D.C., and to Salt Lake City more than 35 times. She has taught MJC adult education genealogy classes and is now concentrating on writing about family. What: Tennis lessons

Info: Modesto’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department and Future Stars 2000s are offering Saturday tennis lessons taught in a fun and positive atmosphere. Come and learn the fundamentals of tennis, including strokes, serving, volleys, strategy, and rules and etiquette. Lessons are taught over four Saturdays at Downey Park by experienced instructors. What: Modesto Parkinson’s support group monthly meeting
When: Wednesday, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Info: The group provides a place for people living with Parkinson’s to gather for education, emotional support and fellowship. A $1 per person donation is requested.
STANISLAUS COUNTY
What: Stanislaus Partners In Education’s Summer Education Internship Program
Who: Stanislaus County educators in middle school through Grade 14
When: Applications are being accepted at www.stanislauspartners.com. The deadline to apply is March 25.
Where: Local businesses, nonprofit organizations, government agencies
Info: The 40-hour internships are for educators of middle school through 14th grade in Stanislaus County. The program is an opportunity for educators to intern with businesses to learn up-to-date job requirements and enhance their ability to relate the work world to students. Stipends are provided and college credit is available.

YESTERYEARS
100 YEARS AGO: D. Laoazotte, owner of the French Laundry, proposed building a $5,000 apartment house on 13th Street, south of H Street. He hired Albert Lapachet, a San Francisco architect, to draw up the plans. In the plans, there were to be eight rooms over the building’s two-story structure with other amenities, such as wall beds and cabinet kitchens, to be marketed to business professionals.
