Happenings at the Stanislaus County libraries
Here’s our weekly glance at the many programs for children and adults offered by the Stanislaus County Library system’s 13 branches. Some programs are ongoing, others are special events and all are free and open to the public:
KNITTING AND CROCHET CLASSES ▪ Ongoing
Knitting and crocheting help for beginners or those needing help with a special project. 3 p.m. Wednesdays. Waterford Library, 324 E St. 209-874-2191.
TEN DAYS OF WINTER BREAK PROGRAM ▪ Monday, Dec. 21-Saturday, Jan. 2
Children and their families can stop by the library for 10 days of activities. Each day will offer a different activity to promote imagination and creativity. Turlock Library, 550 N. Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.
FAMILY STORY TIME ▪ Dec. 21
Turlock Mayor Gary Soiseth will stop by and families can enjoy stories, music, and fingerplays. The selected stories are intended for 4-8 year olds. 1 p.m. Turlock Library, 550 N. Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.
ALL AGES COLORING DAY ▪ Dec. 22
Color your stress away. The library will provide coloring pages, crayons and markers. 3:30 p.m. Ceres Library, 2250 Magnolia St. 209-537-8938.
LEGO PLAY ▪ Dec. 22
LEGO play helps children learn basic mathematics and engineering skills while promoting creativity. Children under the age of 4 are welcome to participate, with parental supervision. 4 p.m. Turlock Library, 550 N. Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.
ALL AGES COLORING WEEK ▪ Dec. 28-Jan. 2
Coloring sheets designed for adults and kids provided, as well as colored pencils and crayons. Drop-in during open hours, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. 209-558-7800.
“THE MAZE RUNNER” ▪ Dec. 28
Teens are invited to a screening of the movie based on the book by James Dashner. 1:30 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. 209-558-7800.
FAMILY STORY TIME: GLOW IN THE DARK EDITION ▪ Dec. 29
Library staff will turn off the lights in the auditorium and present stories that glow in the dark. Glow sticks will be handed out during the program. 6:15 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. 209-558-7800.
FAMILY GAME DAY ▪ Dec. 29
Participants can choose from a variety of classic board games to play as a family. Children under the age of 4 are welcome with parental supervision. 4 p.m. Turlock Library, 550 N. Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.
MAKE NOISEMAKERS ▪ Dec. 29
Children can Ring in the New Year with noisemakers. The library will provide the craft materials needed. 3 p.m. Hughson Library, 2412 Third St., Suite A. 209-883-2293.
FROSTY’S MAGIC HAT SHOW ▪ Dec. 30
Participants will enjoy an afternoon of comedy, ventriloquism, puppetry, and child friendly magic in this retelling of the classic winter story. 11 a.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. 209-558-7800.
NEW YEAR CRAFTS ▪ Dec. 31
