Latest happenings at the Stanislaus County libraries

Here’s our weekly glance at the many programs for children and adults offered by the Stanislaus County Library system’s 13 branches. Some programs are ongoing, others are special events and all are free and open to the public:

KNITTING AND CROCHET CLASSES ▪  Ongoing

STAR WARS PARTY ▪  Dec.1

Make a Yoda finger puppet, a little light saber that really lights up and earn a Jedi Knight certificate. 3:30-4:30 p.m. Waterford Library, 324 E St. 209-874-2191.

TURLOCK LIBRARY BOOK CLUB ▪  Dec. 2

December’s selection is “A Fabricated Mexican” by Rick Rivera. Charts the bittersweet saga of growing up in two cultures with the American Dream as the guiding light. Rivera teaches at Columbia College in Tuolumne County. Turlock Library, 550 N Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.

CLASSIC COOKIE CONTEST ▪  Dec. 3

Which cookie is your favorite? Come by the library and vote for your favorite classic cookie. The winning cookie will be served Dec. 3 in honor of National Cookie Day. All day. Keyes Library, 4420 Maud Ave. 209-664-8006.

HOLIDAY GREETINGS ▪  Dec. 3

Individuals in the community are invited to write greeting cards that will be sent to children in the Ronald McDonald House of Southern California. All day. Keyes Library, 4420 Maud Ave. 209-664-8006.

LEGO DAY ▪  Dec. 3

Using the library’s Legos, children can make colorful art for display in the library. Children under the age of 4 with parental supervision. 3:30 p.m. Ceres Library, 2250 Magnolia St. 209-537-8938.

WRAPPING AND BOW PARTY ▪  Dec. 3

Learn a variety of bow and gift wrapping techniques and make gift labels. 4-6 p.m. Hughson Library, 2412 Third St., Suite A. 209-883-2293.

COLOR YOURSELF CALM: COLORING FOR GROWN UPS ▪  Dec. 5

Relax and de-stress with a day of coloring, conversation, and refreshments. We will provide coloring sheets designed for adults, as well as colored pencils and crayons. Adults only. 1-3 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. 209-558-7800.

FAMILY CRAFT DAY ▪  Dec. 5

Choose from a variety of craft ideas, including snowmen porch blocks, recipe holders, and reindeer message holders. 1-3 p.m. Turlock Library, 550 N Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.

SHAKESPEARE ON TOUR PRESENTS HAMLET ▪  Dec. 5

Shakespeare on Tour will perform “Hamlet,” Shakespeare’s ghostly tale of a prince whose family is disrupted by revenge and corruption. Cast will take audience questions after the hour-long performance. 3 p.m. Free. Salida Library, 4835 Sisk Road. 209-543-7353.

HOPE FOR PARENTS OF COLLEGE BOUND STUDENTS ▪  Dec. 7

CAKE POPS CRAFT ▪  Dec. 9

Doughnut holes will be dipped in various chocolaty goodness in our version of the popular cake pop treat. 3:30 p.m. Oakdale Library, 151 1st Ave. 209-847-4204.

GET CRAFTY: GIFT TAGS AND BOOKMARKS ▪  Dec. 10

This month we will make holiday gift tags and winter bookmarks. All supplies will be provided. 1 p.m. Denair Library, 4801 Kersey Road. 209-634-1283.

SCRAPBOOKING FUN ▪  Dec. 12
