Latest happenings at Stanislaus County libraries

Here’s our weekly glance at the many programs for children and adults offered by the Stanislaus County Library system’s 13 branches. Some programs are ongoing, others are special events and all are free and open to the public:

Knitting and crocheting help for beginners or those needing help with a special project. 3 p.m. Wednesdays. Waterford Library, 324 E St. 209-874-2191.

The Hughson Library will collect thank you letters to veterans. Community members may bring in completed letters or write them in the library. All letters will be forwarded to Operation Gratitude. Library hours. Hughson Library, 2412 Third St., Suite A. 209-883-2293.

Stop by anytime in November to decorate a mug using colorful permanent markers. Finished mugs are hand-washable. Newman Library, 1305 Kern St., 209-862-2010.

Stop by the Modesto Library Conference Room and speak with a local certified enrollment agent to learn about Covered California and to get one-on-one help with the enrollment process. 4-8 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. 209-558-7814.

We’ve got the mugs and the markers. You bring the fun ideas and artistic talent to decorate your mug any way you want to. 3:30 p.m. Oakdale Library, 151 S.1st Ave. 209-847-4204.

Join us as we make popular arts and crafts as seen on Pinterest. This month we will share gift wrapping ideas. Registration is required. . You do not need to be familiar with Pinterest to attend. 7 p.m. Turlock Library, 550 N Minaret Ave. Space is limited, call to register at 209-664-8100.

Teens and adults can visit the library to make unique designs on mason jars. You can use these jars to store special items or as a centerpiece for your Thanksgiving table. 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Keyes Library, 4420 Maud Ave. 209-664-8006.

Make a Yoda finger puppet, a little light saber that really lights up and earn a Jedi Knight certificate. 3:30-4:30 p.m. Waterford Library, 324 E St. 209-874-2191.

December’s selection is “A Fabricated Mexican” by Rick Rivera. Charts the bittersweet saga of growing up in two cultures with the American Dream as the guiding light. Rivera teaches at Columbia College in Tuolumne County. Turlock Library, 550 N Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.
