Name: Rocky Rhoades

Home base: Born in Stockton, live in Manteca, work in Sonora

What you do: I’m the production manager for Stage 3 Theatre Company in historic downtown Sonora, where we produce six plays a year plus many concerts and special events. I’m currently directing the play “Almost, Maine.”

How you knew: When I was 10 I saw “The Rainmaker” at Stockton Civic Theatre and I knew right away I wanted to be involved in theater. From there I was part of Delta Repertory Theater for two years and went on to work at Stockton Civic Theatre, Tokay Players, Community Theatre of Linden, Delta College, Modesto Junior College and many more. I’ve directed, acted or worked on more than 100 shows. I became a radio and club DJ in the ’80s and began to learn more about sound design. Since then I’ve designed the sound for many shows.

Go ahead, brag: I’ve been directing and acting since I was a teenager and I’ve spent more years than I care to admit involved in community, regional and professional theater. I joined Stage 3 Theatre Company as the part-time marketing director in September 2014 and in May 2015 I was promoted to the position of full-time production manager, overseeing all aspects of production for our shows. I recently won an Elly Award (Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance award) for Sound Design for “The Sound of Music” at Stockton Civic Theatre. I’m currently directing “Almost, Maine,” which opens Nov. 14 for Stage 3, and will be directing “Cowgirls the Musical” and “Dog Sees God” in 2016.

Check you out: Come see the often hilarious and touching romantic comedy “Almost, Maine” at Stage 3 in Sonora, opening Nov. 14 and running until Dec. 20. It stars Sheri Garland, Sara Jessica Garcia, Matthew Hobgood, Emily Kentta, Matthew Leamy, Hugo F. Martinez, Brie Shumway and Matthew Trudell.
