Can a big dog and a little dog be friends? Of course they can! They just might have to square off first.

This YouTube clip captures the first meeting between two would-be pup brothers. One is an older, fully grown Rottweiler, and the other is a small ball of pit bull puppy cuteness.

At first glance, they seem to be in a staring match, looking each other in the eye before jumping to attention to check each other's reflexes.

Both stand squarely in front of the other, but it's the puppy that makes the first move. The little tyke goes into a full-on rush, chasing the big dog down the hall and through the house.

Not to worry, though. Both dogs knew it was all in play, and they were truly becoming best friends in an instant.

The Rottweiler comes back into the living room with a toy in his mouth, acting up a storm as if he's frightened of the puppy, only to look back at the camera and give a big smile as if to say, "This puppy is the best present ever!"

"He genuinely likes the puppy," one commenter says. "You can see it on his face. Wow!"

"This is the best reaction you could get when two dogs first meet," another says.

"Let's all take a moment to smile at the little puppy's half sitting booty wiggle on as he unphased by this bear," another jokes.

How to Introduce a Big Dog to a Small Dog

While this meet-cute is certainly adorable, some experts think it's best to introduce dogs of different sizes (or even the same size) on leashes at first. This way, if someone gets a little too excited or nippy, there is a way to control the contact and quickly separate the pups.

It's also advised to introduce dogs in a neutral environment, like a park or backyard, so there's no feeling of personal space being invaded. If you're introducing a puppy to more than one dog, it's best to introduce them to each other one at a time anyway, so that the puppy isn't intimidated by the whole pack.

Of course, sometimes you get lucky, and the two dogs become instant best friends, just like this big guy and his little puppy partner!
