A sweet baby Highland Cow's attempt to moo for the first time is everything we needed today.

In a TikTok video, a mom recorded her baby cow's first attempts to moo after the cow was born a week ago. In the video, the mom encouraged her to make the sound, but she couldn't seem to moo as she wanted. Her mom also commented on how "beautiful" she was to help encourage her, but she was only able to make a tiny little sound.

"You're trying so hard, but you're still so little," the baby cow's mom said as she tilted her chin up to moo, but she could only make a small sound. In the video's text overlay, she wrote, "Have you seen anything cuter than a week-old baby Higland cow trying her absolute most to moo?"

People online were absolutely in love with this sweet baby's moo'ing attempts, with the video garnering over 4 million views and a million likes online.

'You're trying so hard, but you're still so little' - I say to myself at 33," one person joked.

"I love how baby animals use their full body to make itty bitty sounds ," another person said, and her mom agreed, writing, "It's just the cutest."

When Do Baby Cows Typically Moo?

Baby cows don't necessarily need to learn to moo because it's something that's natural to them. In fact, baby cows can moo as soon as they're born. They will typically start out with smaller noises before their moo develops.

In the comments of the video, one other person wrote that they didn't know that cows had to learn to moo when they're babies, and her mom said, "They do it on instinct naturally…. But they have to like grow into their full MOO, so she only makes little noises just now ."

Cows can moo for a variety of reasons, but it serves as their means of communicating with other cows. According to Nebraska Public Media, cattle geneticist Jared Decker at the University of Missouri, Columbia, revealed that their moos can communicate when they're trying to find their herd, when they're hungry, or when they're feeling stressed.
