At the libraries

Here’s our weekly glance at the many programs for children and adults offered by the Stanislaus County Library system’s 13 branches. Some programs are ongoing, others are special events and all are free and open to the public:

KNITTING AND CROCHET CLASSES ▪  Ongoing

Knitting and crocheting help for beginners or those needing help with a special project. 3 p.m. Wednesdays. Waterford Library, 324 E St. 209-874-2191.

READ S’MORE BOOKS ▪  Aug. 10

Celebrate S’more’s Day at the library. All ages can make a yummy s’more craft necklace made from craft foam. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Keyes Library, 4420 Maud Ave. 209-664-8006.

YOGA WITH ROSA ▪  Aug. 18

Bilingual instructor; for all skill levels and ages. Bring water and a yoga mat. Some mats available. 11 a.m. Patterson Library, 46 N. Salado. 209-892-6473.

WEE MOVE AND PLAY ▪  Aug. 18

Toddler and preschool-age children enjoy an hour of movement and sensory play. 3:30 p.m. Oakdale Library, 151 S. First Ave., Oakdale. 209-847-4204.

SUPERHERO REPLAY DAY ▪  Aug. 18

Join the library for superhero crafts that might have been missed over the summer. 3:30 p.m. Waterford Library, 324 E St. 209-874-2191.

CRAFT-A-PALOOZA ▪  Aug. 18

Using left over craft supplies, participants may use their creativity to design a take-home craft. 4 p.m. Turlock Library, 550 Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.

FAMILY DINNER AND MOVIE NIGHT ▪  Aug. 18

Children and their families can enjoy a family-friendly movie and picnic dinner. Movie is “Planes – Fire and Rescue”. Part of the Salida Library's Tuesdays Are Family Days series. Children can come in their pajamas. Bring a picnic dinner and a blanket to sit on. Library will provide a beverage and popcorn. 6 p.m. Salida Library, 4835 Sisk Road. 209-543-7353.

SENSORY PLAY ▪  Aug. 19

Young children ages 0-5 participate in activities to explore different textures. Direct supervision required. 10 a.m. Turlock Library, 550 Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.

CRAFT DEJA YOU ▪  Aug. 19

Opportunity to create or make a craft that perhaps was missed over the summer. 1 p.m. Keyes Library, 4402 Maud Ave. 209-664-8006.

BIRD MOBILE CRAFT ▪  Aug. 19

Participants will have the opportunity to make their own “bird mobile.” 3:30 p.m. Patterson Library, 46 N. Salado. 209-892-6473.

LEGO PLAY DAY ▪  Aug. 19

Children ages 4 to 18 can build LEGO displays for the library. LEGO play helps children develop fine motor skills. Children under 4 must have direct adult supervision. 3:30 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. 209-558-7810.

AS SEEN ON PINTEREST ▪  Aug. 19

Popular arts and crafts as seen on Pinterest. Program presented the third Wednesday of each month. This month’s craft will feature the creation of decorative dishes with just a Sharpie and a plain white plate. Registration is required. EXPLORE SYMMENTRY ▪  Aug. 20

Building STEAM with Dia: Explore Symmetry program featuring a reading and discussion of “Seeing Symmetry” by L. Leedy. Participants will also paint a blot pattern. Program geared for students K-3 and families. Refreshments served. Program sponsored by the Friends of the Oakdale Library. 3:30 p.m. Oakdale Library, 151 S. First Ave. 209-847-4204.

LEGO DAY ▪  Aug. 20

Children ages 4 to 12 can build LEGO displays for the library. Children under 4 must have direct adult supervision. 3:30-4:45 p.m. Ceres Library, 2250 Magnolia. 209-537-8938.

SCRAPBOOKING FUN ▪  Aug. 22

Join the library and local scrapbooker Anna Soto at a free program to learn about and practice scrapbooking. Some materials provided, however participants are encouraged to bring their own. 12:30-4:30 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. 209-558-7814.

GAME AND LEGO DAY ▪  Aug. 25

Creative fun at the library featuring children and family members creating masterpieces for display at the library. Children under 4 must have direct supervision. 3 p.m. Hughson Library, 2413 Third St., Suite A. 209-883-2293.

LEGO PLAY ▪  Aug. 25

Play and create designs and displays using LEGO blocks. DUPLO blocks also available. Children under 4 must have direct adult supervision. 4 p.m. Salida Library, 4835 Sisk Road. 209-543-7353 and Turlock Library, 550 Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.

COLORING DAY ▪  Aug. 27

All ages are invited to color at the library. Library will provide coloring pages, crayons and markers. Finished artwork will be placed on display. 3:30-4:45 p.m. Ceres Library, 2250 Magnolia. 209-537-8938.

CRAZY PENCIL CRAFT ▪  Aug. 28

Crazy pencil craft, pencils and supplies provided by the library. 3:30 p.m. Riverbank Library, 3442 Santa Fe St. 209-869-7008.

HOPE FOR PARENTS OF COLLEGE BOUND STUDENTS ▪  Aug. 31

Local financial consultant, Michael Howell, will be discussing cost reducing strategies for parents of college bound students. Registration required. 6 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. 209-558-7814.
