At the libraries
Here’s our weekly glance at the many programs for children and adults offered by the Stanislaus County Library system’s 13 branches. Some programs are ongoing, others are special events and all are free and open to the public:
KNITTING AND CROCHET CLASSES ▪ Ongoing
Knitting and crocheting help for beginners or those needing help with a special project. 3 p.m. Wednesdays. Waterford Library, 324 E St. 209-874-2191.
READ S’MORE BOOKS ▪ Aug. 10
Celebrate S’mores Day at the library. All ages can make a yummy s’more craft necklace from craft foam. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Keyes Library, 4420 Maud Ave. 209-664-8006.
WEE MOVE AND PLAY ▪ Aug. 11
Program for toddlers and prechoolers featuring an hour of music, movement and sensory play. 4 p.m. Salida Library, 4835 Sisk Road. 209-543-7835.
PIGEON CRAFT ▪ Aug. 11
Celebration of Mo Willems’ pigeon books with a story and a pigeon craft. 4 p.m. Turlock Library, 550 Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.
SOCKTOPUS CRAFT ▪ Aug. 12
Participants will be able to make an octopus using a sock. 1 p.m. Keyes Library, 4402 Maud Ave. 209-664-8006.
LEGO PLAY DAY ▪ Aug. 12
Children ages 4 to 12 will can build LEGO displays for the library. Children under 4 are welcome, but must have direct adult supervision. 3:30 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. 209-558-7810 and Patterson Library, 46 N. Salado. 209-892-6473.
ESTATE PLANNING SEMINAR ▪ Aug. 12
Attorney Julie Richardson will review the basics of estate planning, including a discussion of all of the documents you need, plus other issues to consider. 5 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. 209-558-7810.
LEGO DAY ▪ Aug. 13
Children ages 4-12 may create unique LEGO designs to be displayed at the library. Children under 4 are welcome, but must have direct adult supervision. 3:30 p.m. Oakdale Library, 151 S. First Ave. 209-847-4204.
AQUARIUM PAPER PLATE DIORAMA CRAFT ▪ Aug. 13
Participants will have the opportunity to create their own aquarium with sea life. Supplies provided. 3:30-4:45 p.m. Ceres Library, 2250 Magnolia. 209-537-8938.
LEGO DAY ▪ Aug. 13
Children ages 4 to 12 may create LEGO displays to be used for decorating the library. Children under 4 are welcome, but must have direct supervision. 3:30 p.m. Newman Library, 1305 Kern St. 209-862-2010.
CARD-MAKING CRAFT ▪ Aug. 15
Participants may create a uniquely designed card using shaving cream and paint. 1:30 p.m. Newman Library, 1305 Kern St. 209-862-2010.
YOGA WITH ROSA ▪ Aug. 18
Bilingual instructor will introduce and lead yoga class for all skill levels and ages. Bring water and a yoga mat. Some mats available. 11 a.m. Patterson Library, 46 N. Salado. 209-892-6473.
WEE MOVE AND PLAY ▪ Aug. 18

SUPERHERO REPLAY DAY ▪ Aug. 18
Join the library for superhero crafts that might have been missed over the summer. 3:30 p.m. Waterford Library, 324 E St. 209-874-2191.
CRAFT-A-PALOOZA ▪ Aug. 18
Using leftover craft supplies, participants may use their creativity to design a take-home craft. 4 p.m. Turlock Library, 550 Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.
FAMILY DINNER AND MOVIE NIGHT ▪ Aug. 18
Children and their families can enjoy a family-friendly movie and picnic dinner. Movie is “Planes – Fire and Rescue.” Part of the Salida Library’s Tuesdays Are Family Days series. Children can come in their pajamas. Bring a picnic dinner and a blanket to sit on. Library will provide a beverage and popcorn. 6 p.m. Salida Library, 4835 Sisk Road. 209-543-7353.
SENSORY PLAY ▪ Aug. 19
Children up to age 5 participate in activities to explore different textures. Direct supervision required. 10 a.m. Turlock Library, 550 Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.
