At the libraries

Here’s our weekly glance at the many programs for children and adults offered by the Stanislaus County Library system’s 13 branches. Some programs are ongoing, others are special events and all are free and open to the public:

KNITTING AND CROCHET CLASSES ▪  Ongoing

Knitting and crocheting help for beginners or those needing help with a special project. 3 p.m. Wednesdays. Waterford Library, 324 E St. 209-874-2191.

SUPERHERO ACADEMY ▪  July 28

Lesson 4 features a superhero story, the creation of a superhero cape and the opportunity to test your superhero skills. Advanced registration required. 2:30 p.m. Keyes Library, 4420 Maud Ave. 209-664-8006.

SNEAKER WINGS CRAFT ▪  July 28

LEGO PLAY DAY ▪  July 28

TECHNOLOGY OPEN HOUSE ▪  July 28

Learn to use library online resources on your device including eBooks, eMagazines, Audiobooks and Mango. Drop in for one-on-one assistance. 6 p.m. Newman Library, 1305 Kern St. 209-862-2010.

TIE-DYE AT THE LIBRARY ▪  July 29

Bring a t-shirt, hat, or tote to tie dye. The library will supply all the dye and other equipment needed to tie dye the item. All ages welcome, parental supervision is required. One child per adult at a time. 1 p.m. Keyes Library, 4420 Maud Ave. 209-664-8006.

STICKER BOOKS ▪  July 29

Learn how to make a sticker book to keep all your stickers organized. Stickers will be able to be removed and stuck back on the pages of the book. 3 p.m. Denair Library, 4801 Kersey Road. 209-634-1283.

LEGO DAY ▪  July 29

Children ages 4-12 can create LEGO displays for the library. Children under 4 are welcome, but must have direct adult supervision. 3:30 p.m. Patterson Library, 46 N. Salado. 209-892-6473.

MARSHMALLOW SHOOTERS ▪  July 29

Participants can make a marshmallow shooter out of recycled plastic cups and balloons. 4 p.m. Turlock Library, 550 Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.

SUPERHERO PAPER BAG PUPPET CRAFT ▪  July 30

Participants can create their favorite superhero puppet out of a paper bag. Materials provided. 3:30-5 p.m. Ceres Library, 2250 Magnolia. 209-537-8938.

HARRY POTTER BIRTHDAY PARTY ▪  July 30

Celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday with a party and a movie. 1:30 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. 209-558-7810.

SUMMER FUN WITH THE FUNSTRUMMERS ▪  Aug. 1

Sing along to summer songs and stay after for the ukulele petting zoo. Following the music, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about, hold and play a ukulele. 1 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. 209-558-7810.

DANCE EXERCISE ▪  Ongoing beginning Aug. 3

Weekly dance exercise classes, conducted by certified instructors. Program presented in partnership with Sierra Vista Child and Family Services. Adults only, no childcare provided. Participants must complete a wavier. 6 p.m. Salida Library, 4835 Sisk Road. 209-543-7353.

YOGA WITH ROSA ▪  Aug. 4

SUPERHERO PARTY▪ Aug. 4

End of summer Superhero Party featuring games including Pin the Symbol on Batman, Spiderman Toss, Superhero Bean Bag Toss. Photo booth. Opportunity to create lollipops, masks and scratch art. Cake and light refreshments. Individuals welcome to come in costume, however costumes are not required. 2:30 p.m. Keyes Library, 4420 Maud Ave. 209-664-8006.

WEE MOVE AND PLAY ▪  Aug. 4

An hour of music, movement, and sensory play for toddlers and preschool-age children. 3:30 p.m. Ceres Library, 2250 Magnolia. 209-537-8938.

SUPERHERO CAPES ▪  Aug. 4

Create a unique superhero cape designed after your favorite superhero or using your own creativity to match your superpowers. 3:30 p.m. Newman Library, 1305 Kern St. 209-862-2010.

BUBBLES AND BOREDOM BLASTERS ▪  Aug. 4

Science experiments and activities to add some pop to summer. Event will explore bubbles, marshmallow shooters and other fun things. Program for ages 4-12. 4 p.m. Salida Library, 4825 Sisk Road. 209-543-7353.

POPSICLE PARTY ▪  Aug. 4

Celebration of the end of the Summer Reading Challenge. Popsicles will be distributed while they last. Colored popsicle sticks available for play. 4 p.m. Turlock Library, 550 Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.

AS SEEN ON PINTEREST ▪  Aug. 4

Program will feature the creation of decorative dishes with just a Sharpie and a plain white plate. Registration is required. Space is limited. Program runs the third Wednesday of each month. 7 p.m. Turlock Library, 550 Minaret Ave. 209-664-8100.

PERLER BEAD CRAFT ▪  Aug. 5

Participants will make unique designs using fusible perler beads. Keyes Library, 4420 Maud Ave. 209-664-8006.

ESTATE PLANNING SEMINAR ▪  Aug. 12

AQUARIUM PAPER PLATE DIORAMA CRAFT ▪  Aug. 13

FAMILY DINNER AND MOVIE NIGHT ▪  Aug. 18

Children and their families can enjoy a family-friendly movie and picnic dinner. Movie is “Planes – Fire and Rescue”. Part of the Salida Library's Tuesdays Are Family Days series. SENSORY PLAY ▪  Aug. 19

Building STEAM with Dia: Explore Symmetry program featuring a reading and discussion of “Seeing Symmetry” by L. Leedy. Participants will also paint a blot pattern.
