Community invited to menorah lightings, more Hanukkah celebrations in Modesto
The community is invited to take part in Hanukkah celebrations in Modesto, offered by Congregation Beth Shalom.
CBS is marking the holiday with menorah lightings, its annual Latkes and Vodkas event and a community Hanukkah party, according to congregant Kate Trompetter.
The congregation has regularly invited the community to its Hanukkah events.
Hanukkah celebrates the victory of the Maccabees in their struggle for religious freedom. It begins the evening of Thursday, Dec. 7, and ends at sunset on Friday, Dec. 15.
Menorah lightings will take place at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at McHenry Village, 1700 McHenry Ave., Modesto, and at 6 p.m. Dec. 12 at Tenth Street Plaza in downtown Modesto.
The latter event will include live music.
The congregation’s Latkes and Vodkas gala fundraiser returns Saturday, Dec. 9, from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at CBS, 1705 Sherwood Ave., Modesto.
The event features “an excessive amount of delicious food, drinks, and music by local band, Tongue and Groove,” according to a press release from CBS.
The celebration features a prime rib dinner (with a vegan option), homemade latkes, a no-host bar and dancing.
This is a 21-and-older event and tickets are $100, available by calling 209-571-5060 or at cbsmodesto.org/whats-happening/events.
Finally, a free Community Hanukkah Party will be held Dec. 10, 5 to 7 p.m., at Congregation Beth Shalom.
CBS is undergoing a leadership transition, with longtime Rabbi Shalom Bochner having moved to Petaluma in June after 10 years with the congregation, according to a press release.
Interim Rabbi Susan Leider is filling in as they search for a new rabbi.
