Happens only once about every 30 years. Modesto event to mark overlap of observances
The rare overlap of Easter, Ramadan and Passover will be marked by Stanislaus County faith leaders during a community event.
It also will be “an opportunity to stand in solidarity with Ukrainians and hear stories of their current struggle against invasion,” according to a press release from Congregation Beth Shalom’s Rabbi Shalom Bochner.
The group Multi-faith Leaders in the Community will hold the free gathering Monday evening, April 18, at Modesto’s Graceada Park. It will feature Muslim, Christian and Jewish speakers, as well as Ukrainians. It is open to the public.
Due to the Islamic calendar, Easter, Ramadan and Passover overlap about every 30 years, the release said. “As all three Abrahamic faiths will be observing sacred rituals marking spiritual renewal, it was decided to do a public event featuring storytelling from all three faiths.”
Multi-faith Leaders in the Community has met monthly for the last five years “to build bridges of understanding between the various religious, ethnic, and political perspectives in the region,” according to the release.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Graceada Park, 401 Needham St. For more information, contact Bochner at 209-484-7460.
