Community invited as in-person Passover Seder returns to Modesto’s Jewish congregation
After two years of virtual Passover Seders, Modesto’s Congregation Beth Shalom will host the observance in person this month.
A Passover Seder will be held Saturday, April 16, starting at 6 p.m. at the congregation, 1705 Sherwood Ave., Modesto, according to a press release from Rabbi Shalom Bochner.
The entire community is invited to join.
The Jewish Passover holiday starts this year on Friday night, April 15, and ends on Saturday night, April 23.
Passover is Judaism’s most observed holiday. It dates back more than 3,300 years and celebrates the birthday of the Hebrew tribe, when it emerged from slavery and into a free nation, according to the release.
“It is also a celebration of the season of rebirth after the winter and a time of new beginnings,” the release said.
Passover’s main ritual is a Seder, a meal eaten with family, friends and neighbors. Because of the pandemic, the congregation offered virtual Seders in 2020 and 2021 using Zoom and prepackaged dinners.
This year, CBS will host a musical Seder led by Bochner. Food will include a catered multi-course kosher meal with vegetarian and gluten-free options.
There also will be traditional songs and activities, including singalongs. The Seders are an opportunity for the Jewish and non-Jewish to learn more about the holiday and eat the traditional food, the release said.
People need to RSVP to attend by calling the congregation at 209-571-6060 or go online to www.eventbrite.com/e/passover-seder-tickets-305779273037.
