Easter egg hunts off; Modesto church takes them virtual

Shelter Cove Community Church has found an innovative way to give children a chance to hunt for Easter eggs, despite the coronavirus pandemic.

The church has been known the past few years for its popular helicopter egg drop that then sent kids across its large lawn area to hunt them down.

This year that can’t happen due to the COVID-19 stay-at-home order, so it’s taking the hunt virtual.

On Saturday and Sunday, April 11-12, Shelter Cove will host an egg hunt using the video game Minecraft, open to all children in the community, according to a church press release.

Children must be signed up in advance to participate, the release said. For those who sign up, additional details and information for connecting to the server will be sent out shortly before the start of the game.

“There will be eggs and some special surprises in store for everyone involved,” the release said.

Participants need to make sure before this weekend that they are using a version of Minecraft that is able to connect to an external server. Consoles can’t be used, the release said.

Game times for the Minecraft hunt are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Sign up in advance at sheltercoveeaster.com to participate. For questions, contact the church office at 209-567-3200.
