What's happening at the Stanislaus County libraries

Here’s our weekly glance at the many programs for children and adults offered by the Stanislaus County Library system’s 13 branches. Some programs are ongoing, others are special events and all are free and open to the public:

DANCE EXERCISE • Ongoing

Weekly dance exercise classes conducted by certified instructors. Presented in partnership with Sierra Vista Child and Family Services. Participants must complete waiver. Adults only, no child care provided. 6 p.m. Mondays. Salida Library, 4835 Sisk Road. (209) 543-7353.

KNITTING AND CROCHET CLASSES • Ongoing

Knitting and crocheting help for beginners or those needing help with a special project. 3 p.m. Wednesdays. Waterford Library, 324 E St. (209) 874-2191.

TEEN CRAFT FAIR SIGNUPS • Through May 30

Local teens may sign up to participate in the All-Teen Craft Fair scheduled for June 20. Deadline is May 30. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. (209). 558-7810.

LEGO PLAY DAY • May 26

All ages are invited to enjoy Lego play at the library. Duplo blocks also available for those under the age of 4, with direct adult supervision. 4 p.m. Salida Library, 4835 Sisk Road. (209) 543-7353.

LEARN TO FLY PROGRAM • May 27

Children will make a cape and learn how to sling a web and create a power plane. “Learn to Fly” program sponsored by the Friends of the Hughson Library. 1 p.m. Hughson Library, 2412A Third St. (209) 883-2293.

SUPERHERO CRAFT• May 27

Participants can craft unique necklaces, key chains and magnets featuring their favorite superhero. 1 p.m. Keyes Library, 4420 Maud Ave. (209) 664-8006.

PUPPET CRAFT • May 27

Children are invited to create superheroes and villain puppets out of paper bags. 3 p.m. Denair Library, 4801 Kersey Road. (209) 634-1283.

BOUNCY DICE EXPOLSION • May 27

Crazy 8s Math program recommended for students grades K-2. Participants will learn the chances of rolling a 2 or a 5, then try to be the winning chip. 3:30 p.m. Newman Library, 1305 Kern St. (209) 862-1020.

SENIOR AWARENESS DAY • May 28

Day where seniors in the community can stop by to learn about the resources that are available to them. Representatives from organizations/programs, such as CalFresh, Catholic Charities, HICAP, and others, will be on hand to answer questions and help with enrollment into programs. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. (209) 558-8698.

GARDEN STARTER CRAFT • May 28

Children up to age 5 can stay after library storytime and participate in a craft to start their own summer garden with seeds and dirt. Noon. Hughson Library, 2412 Third St., Suite A. (209) 883-2293.

SUPERHERO TRAINING • May 28

Children can take part in a Superhero Training Academy. Those who complete the “official superhero checklist” will receive a special certificate. 3:30 p.m. Oakdale Library, 151 S. First Ave. (209) 847-4204.

CRAFTAPALOOZA •  May 30

A variety of craft stations will be set up in the library auditorium. Program designed for teens and adults; younger children are welcome to participate with direct supervision. 1-4 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. (209) 558-7814.

HOPE FOR COLLEGE-

BOUND STUDENTS PROGRAM • June 1

Local financial consultant Michael Howell will discuss cost reducing strategies for parents of college-bound students. Registration is required. 6 p.m. Modesto Library, 1500 I St. (209) 558-7814.
