CITY OF MODESTO
NEEDED: Volunteers 15 and older for the Celebration of Lights Parade on Dec 2. Duties include manning barricades, volunteer check-in, course monitoring, staging and registration. Youth volunteers 14 and younger eligible to volunteer with an adult. Two shifts, 2-8 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. Register online at www.modestogov.com

CITY OF MODESTO
NEEDED: Volunteers 15 and older for the Modesto Spirit of Giving 5K Run, Walk and Ride on Dec. 9. Duties include course monitoring, set-up/breakdown, registration check-in, volunteer check-in, packet pick-up and decorating. Modesto Gospel Mission will benefit from a portion of the run/walk proceeds, as well as the canned food drive. Youth volunteers 14 and younger eligible to volunteer with an adult. DOCTORS MEDICAL CENTER
NEEDED: Service League Volunteers over the age of 21 to commit to two 3.5 hour shifts per month for at least one year. Volunteers receive 25-hour training orientation. Must be dependable, organized, work well with people, complete the application process and pass a background check.

PARENT RESOURCE CENTER
NEEDED: Volunteers ages 14 years and older are needed on an ongoing basis to assist with childcare supervision participating in fun, creative activities while parents are attending class on site. The class is on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings from at 9 a.m. to 11 am and till 12 noon on Friday mornings. Play games, sing songs and help children increase their developmental skills. Volunteers need to commit to two hours per week. Volunteers must have a current TB clearance and a background check for individuals 18 years and older.

HEALTHY AGING ASSOCIATION
NEEDED: Fitness instructors to lead Young At Heart group exercise classes. No experience is needed – only a passion for wellness and working with older adults. Attend the Volunteer Orientation that will be held on Jan. 11, 1 p.m. at 3500 Coffee Road, Suite 19, Modesto. Free training certification is available. Other volunteer opportunities are available.

SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older and their friendly pets to visit seniors in convalescent hospitals and care facilities through the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Pet Outreach Program. Children are welcome if well supervised by parent. Pets need to be friendly and like to be handled. Visits made the first and second Saturday mornings and the third Wednesday mornings of each month.

TURLOCK HISTORICAL SOCIETY
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older to work as Turlock Historical Museum docents, working at least once a month. Museum hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at 108 S. Center St. Docents greet the public, answer phones, handle sales and do light chores. An interview and two to three training hours are required. UNITED WAY OF STANISLAUS COUNTY
NEEDED: Volunteers to support United Way’s CHEF Health Initiative at Caswell Elementary School in Ceres and Bret Harte Elementary School in Modesto. CHEF provides bags of healthy food as well as nutrition education classes for parents and students. Volunteers help pack bags of food on two Friday afternoons a month.

Soroptimist Christmas Tree
The Soroptimist Community Christmas Tree returns to Vintage Faire Mall in Modesto on Black Friday and the group seeks volunteers to help at its kiosk and wrap room. The Soroptimist tree helps 2,500 local disadvantaged children. Volunteers are needed from Nov. 24 through Dec. 18.
