Small drought-tolerant garden provides beauty and privacy
Seeking to do their part for water conservation efforts, a Modesto couple developed a plan that combines drought tolerance with low maintenance in their front landscape.
Ken and Johnna Bryant’s efforts have garnered their yard at 1804 Encina Ave. Garden of the Month honors for November from the Modesto Garden Club.
The Bryants used bark mulch, several kinds of grasses, salvia, barberry and olive trees to create the landscape. A dry stream bed also was added for interest.
A tall fence combined with a solid steel front gate help protect and add privacy to the house, which rests close to the street.
While a small garden, the space is both functional and water-wise while also complementing the house.
