Edible Extravaganza
Eat, drink and be extravagant at the 30th annual Edible Extravaganza. The annual fundraiser for the Center for Human Services is going “Back to the ’80s” with its theme this year. Some 50 area restaurants, caterers, growers, bakers, confectioners, brewers, distillers, wineries and more will have tastings at the event. Guests are invited to dress in ’80s style and enjoy live music from the decade.

The Valley Talent Project
A new name hasn’t diminished the caliber of performers set to compete in Gallo Center for the Arts’ seventh annual regional talent show. The Valley Talent Project, formerly Valley’s Got Talent, will have 28 acts competing in seven categories from vocals to dance, instrumental to bands and specialty. The first night will be for audience favorite and second for judges’ grand prize.

Modesto Fiji Festival
Spend a day in the park with the Modesto Fiji Festival. The event will include food and retail vendors offering Fiji-related wares. Festivities will include cultural music and dance shows throughout the day. The family-friendly event will include a kids zone and other activities. Tiki torches will be lit after dark for more dancing and celebration.

Assyrian Festival
The Assyrian Festival returns for its second year to the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds. The event will feature authentic food, historical exhibits, cultural presentations, live entertainment and more. The free family event will start with a parade celebrating the Assyrian culture and its contributions through history. An indoor exhibit will highlight the accomplishments of Assyrians in the Central Valley and beyond.

Smoke on the River
The annual festival celebrating bands, brews and barbecue returns. The Ceres Chamber of Commerce sponsored Smoke on the River includes a barbecue competition and music festival. Performers will be Big Earl & the Cryin’ Shame, Patty Castillo-Davis and The California Outlaws. More than 20 pitmaster teams will vie for awards in chicken, pork and ribs. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
