Ukuleles will fill the Gallo Center for the Arts with music in a “tongue-in-cheek” nod to classical orchestras. Stanislaus County artists open their doors to the public for the annual studio tour. There also are festivals peppering the Modesto region, all from April 25 to May 1.
Ukulele orchestra
The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain features instruments of various sizes and registers, from soprano to bass. The group will take its show to the Gallo Center. “The ensemble is best known for performing musically faithful but often tongue-in-cheek covers of popular songs and musical pieces from a wide variety of music genres ...,” the center’s website says. Songs “are introduced with lighthearted deadpan humor, and juxtaposition is a feature of their act, the members of the orchestra wear semiformal (black tie) evening dress and sit behind music stands, in a parody of a classical ensemble.”
