The popular Apple TV comedy “Stick” will bring a Modesto-bred actor into its regular cast for season two.
Timothy Olyphant had a recurring role in season one, and fans will find him back as a regular when the streaming series returns, according to a story on Deadline.com.
The show stars Owen Wilson as Pryce Cahill — nicknamed Stick — a washed-up former professional golfer.
His “career was derailed prematurely 20 years ago. After the collapse of his marriage and while working at an Indiana sporting goods store, Pryce hedges his bets and future entirely on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom named Santi (Peter Dager),” the story says.
Emmy-nominated Olyphant will return as Clark Ross, Pryce’s rival and former partner, according to the story. The Season 1 finale suggests that Santi has “flirted with the idea of teaming up with Clark, replacing Pryce.”
The series, renewed in July for a second season, will bring back regulars Wilson, Dager, Marc Maron, Mariana Treviño, and Lilli Kay, according to Deadline. Also going from a recurring role to regular cast member will be Judy Greer as Pryce’s ex-wife.
Season one’s 10 episodes – Olyphant is listed on IMDB.com as having appeared in five – are available on Apple TV. No release date is set for season two.
A Beyer High graduate, Olyphant has appeared in many films and TV series.
He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2011 as best actor in a drama for his starring role in the FX series “Justified,” in 2019 as part of the team behind “Deadwood: The Movie” and in 2021 for guest actor in a drama series for “The Mandalorian.”
“Stick” won’t be Olyphant’s only Apple TV appearance. According to IMDB he will be a cast member in the series “Lucky,” set to begin July 15.
In that show, a “reformed criminal (Anya Taylor-Joy) is forced to confront her past and return to illicit activities for one final job...,” the IMDB synopsis says.
