Popular singer-songwriter returning to native Modesto region for benefit concert

Oakdale’s Brett Dennen will return for a show at the State Theatre to benefit Camp Jack Hazard. The singer-songwriter was a camper and later a staff member there, according to the theater’s website. It’s just one of the entertainment options in the Modesto region from Jan. 3-9.

“Brett Dennen Live – A Camp Jack Hazard Benefit Concert” brings the Oakdale native back home for a show at the State Theatre. Dennen’s 2008 album, “Hope for the Hopeless,” reached the Top 50 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Camp Jack Hazard has been serving the Modesto region for more than 100 years, letting youths discover adventure, nature, music and friendships in the Sierra Nevada. The program will mirror a day at the camp. Singer-songwriter Dennen will weave his music into the experience.
All proceeds will support the Campership program, which provides financial assistance to families. VIP tickets are available through the Camp Jack Hazard office at 209-965-7254.

Shen Yun 2026
“Shen Yun 2026” brings the performing arts group back to the Gallo Center for a pair of shows. Shen Yun’s productions offer traditional Chinese dance and music with storytelling, athleticism, orchestras and animated backdrops.

Winter Fantasyland
The Winter Fantasyland at the McHenry Museum will celebrate fantasy stories inspired by favorite fiction including the Harry Potter stories, “The Chronicles of Narnia,” “Percy Jackson and the Olympian,” “Wings of Fire” and more. Activities, crafts and snacks are planned for kids 9 and up, though all ages are welcome. Costumes are encouraged but not required.

“Silver Linings”
The Carnegie Arts Center’s first new exhibition set for 2026 is “Silver Linings.” The exhibit will feature works by participants in Memorial Medical Center’s Complementary Art Therapies program for cancer patients, survivors and family members.
