The timeless classic “A Christmas Carol” will be staged at the Gallo Center for the Arts. Mannheim Steamroller also will bring its holiday program to the downtown Modesto venue. These are just two of the entertainment options planned in the region for Nov. 22-28.

“A Christmas Carol”

Modesto Performing Arts will present a production of the Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol” at the Gallo Center. Directed by MPA founder Paul Tischer, it’s an adaptation of the book about the redemption of Ebenezer Scrooge, a miser who hates Christmas and pretty much everyone. On Christmas Eve, he is visited by three ghosts, which changes his life.

Mannheim Steamroller

Mannheim Steamroller Christmas by Chip Davis brings its holiday program to the Gallo Center. The show features Christmas classics in the distinctive Mannheim sound, with 15 musicians playing more than 20 instruments against a backdrop of multimedia effects.

Disney’s Moana

Disney Concerts and AMP Worldwide present “Disney’s Moana Live-To-Film Concert” at the Gallo Center, part of its North American tour. The show features a full-length screening of the film accompanied by live performances by studio musicians, Polynesian rhythm masters and vocalists. Limited tickets remained available.

Parents’ Night Out

The Modesto Children’s Museum brings back its “Parents’ Night Out” evening. Parents can drop off their children, ages 5 to 11, at the museum for an evening of supervised fun. Kids will enjoy after-hours museum play, crafts and hands-on activities, games, dinner, snacks and a movie. Space is limited, advance registration is required.

Handel’s “Messiah”

A public-participation performance of G.F. Handel’s “Messiah” returns to Modesto’s Trinity United Presbyterian Church. Singers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in the community tradition. Conductor John Carter will lead the singers in more than a dozen performances. There will be vocal soloists and a seven-piece orchestra.

Gospel concert

A Fall Turlock Community Gospel Choir Concert will be held at Turlock Community Theatre. The choir is celebrating 10 years of gospel singing, and members represent more than 20 churches from Turlock and surrounding cities.
