Popular spring tour returning to Modesto. See what, when and where

The Modesto Garden Club’s popular Spring Tour returns, highlighting five landscapes. A pair of bands bring the “technobanda” sound to the Gallo Center, while a festival for kids hits the Stanislaus County Fairground. These are just some of the entertainment options set from April 12-18 in the Modesto region.

Garden tour

Five gardens will be open for viewing during the Modesto Garden Club’s Spring Tour. The self-touring event includes the club’s demonstration garden at 622 14th St., along with home landscapes at 2525 Paradise Ave.; 3530 Kiernan Ave.; 7217 Spy Glass Drive; and 1829 Giardino Way. Proceeds benefit the club’s scholarships and beautifying work such as at the Aileen Gallo Memorial Clock, flower pots in downtown and Gallo Center for the Arts, maintaining the senior citizens center garden, school and therapeutic gardens and more.

Technobanda

“The Viva La Quebradita Tour” featuring Banda Machos and Banda Maguey will pull into the Gallo Center. The two bands from Villa Corona in the state of Jalisco “are among the most successful exponents of the “technobanda” sound,” according to the center’s website. Banda Machos performs a combination of Banda, Quebradita and Rancher. Banda Maguey’s 1994 debut album, “Tumbando Caña,” had hits including “El Alacran.”

Benefit talent show

The competition Spotlight Modesto will showcase talent in the region featuring a variety of performers. Presented by the Leadership Modesto Class of 2025 at the State Theatre, the competition is a fundraiser, with all proceeds benefiting Without Permission. The nonprofit organization works to combat human trafficking and support survivors.

Phil Collins tribute

In The Air Tonight is a tribute concert re-creating shows by Grammy award-winning group Genesis and Phil Collins. The show at the State Theatre will include the hits “Turn it on Again,” “Abacab,” “Tonight, Tonight, Tonight,” “Sussudio,” “Against All Odds,” “Invisible Touch,” “Easy Lover,” “In the Air Tonight” and more.

Fest for kids

The YupUp Kids Fest brings all-ages fun to the Stanislaus County Fairground. The festival includes interactive play zones, creative stations, meet-and-greets with popular characters and princesses, live entertainment and more.

“The Postman Always Rings Twice”

Prospect Theater Project’s next Radio Cavalcade production is “The Postman Always Rings Twice.” A drifter arrives at a quiet roadside restaurant, where he falls for the owner’s wife. They begin a deadly affair and plan to end her marriage. Prospect Theater’s Radio Cavalcade series features one-night-only staged readings of classic radio plays, with live music and sound effects.
